Invitrogen™ Human IFN-alpha 2 (alpha 2b) Recombinant Protein
Recombinant Protein
Marque: Invitrogen™ 111051
Description
After receipt, the product may be stored at -20°C for short-term use (less than 6 months). For long-term storage, store the product at -70°C or below for retention of full activity. Thaw product vial by incubation in cold tap water until just thawed. Aliquot and refreeze unused contents to minimize effects of freeze thawing. Refreezing should be done on dry ice or in a dry ice/alcohol bath. Further dilution of product should be in buffers containing protein such as 0.1% BSA or tissue culture media with serum.
Interferon alpha-2b is a cytokine that belongs to the type I interferon family and is encoded by a gene cluster on chromosome 9. It is produced in response to viral infection and plays a key role in the innate immune response, exhibiting potent antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. Interferon alpha-2b binds to a plasma membrane receptor consisting of IFNAR1 and IFNAR2, which is expressed ubiquitously in the body and can thus act on virtually all cells. This cytokine is effective in reducing the symptoms and duration of the common cold, and has shown efficacy in treating various types of cancer, including hematological malignancies and solid tumors. A deficiency of type I interferon in the blood is considered a hallmark of severe COVID-19, and a combination therapy involving interferon alpha-2b may be a potential therapeutic approach. IFNA2 has been associated with diseases such as Severe Covid-19 and Hepatitis B.
