1,2,4-Trichlorobenzène est utilisé comme fluide de transfert diélectrique et thermique dans les transformateurs. Il agit comme intermédiaire, dégraissant, conservateur de bois et solvant pour le colorant. Il s’agit d’un solvant à haute température utilisé dans la chromatographie de perméation sur gel, en particulier pour le polyéthylène et le polypropylène. De plus, il est utilisé comme lubrifiant et comme huile de transformateur synthétique.
