1,8-Naphthalic anhydride is used as a seed protectant and to prepare dyestuffs and optical brighteners. It is used in the preparation of napthalimide analogues, which finds application as anticancer agents. Further, it is used as fluorescent brightening agent for polymeric materials.

Applications
L’anhydride 1,8-naphthalique est utilisé comme agent de protection des graines et pour préparer des colorants et des azurants optiques. Il est utilisé dans la préparation d’analogues de naphthalimide, pour des applications en tant qu’agents anticancéreux. De plus, il est utilisé comme agent d’azurage fluorescent pour les polymères.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’éther et l’alcool. Légèrement soluble dans l’acide acétique. Insoluble dans l’eau.

Remarques
Sensible à l’humidité. Incompatible avec les agents oxydants puissants, les acides forts et les bases fortes.
