2-Mercaptothiazoline, is used in the chain-lengthening of alkyl halides by trans-iodopropenylenation. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is an antithyroid agent that strongly reduces thyroid hormone levels. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is also used as an intermediate in the preparation of biologically active compounds. It is also used as a tool for highly selective chiral synthesis of penam- and carbapenam-type β-lactam antibiotics.

Applications
La 2-mercaptothiazoline est utilisée dans l’allongement en chaîne des halogénures d’alkyle par trans-iodopropénylénation. La 2-mercaptothiazoline est un agent antithyroïdien qui réduit fortement les taux d’hormones thyroïdiennes. La 2-mercaptothiazoline est également utilisée comme intermédiaire dans la préparation de composés biologiquement actifs. Elle est également utilisée comme outil de synthèse chirale hautement sélective des antibiotiques de type penam et carbapenam β-lactame.

Solubilité
Soluble dans le chloroforme et le méthanol. Légèrement soluble dans l’eau.

Remarques
Garder le récipient bien fermé dans un endroit sec et bien ventilé. Tenir à l’écart des agents oxydants forts.
