4,4?-diiodobiphenyl was coupled with (trimethylsilyl) acetylene via a Sonogashira-Hagihara reaction to afford the (trimethylsilyl)ethynyl derivative. 4,4?-diiodobipheny enhanced the expression of the luciferase gene.
