Bathophenanthroline is widely used for determination of iron in serum and urine by colorimtetry. It acts as buffer layer to improve the efficiency of organic photovoltaic cells. It is very useful as a scavenger reagent, for the removal of traces of iron and copper from reagent solutions, which is used in the trace metal determination. Iron bathophenanthroline complex is involved as a redox mediating agent for imaging surface immobilized deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by using Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM).

Applications
La bathophénantholine est largement utilisée pour la détermination du fer dans le sérum et l’urine par colorimétrie. Elle agit comme couche tampon pour améliorer l’efficacité des cellules photovoltaïques organiques. Elle est très utile comme réactif éboueur, pour l’élimination de traces de fer et de cuivre dans les solutions de réactifs, qui est utilisée dans la détermination des métaux à l’état de traces. Le complexe de bathophénantholine de fer est utilisé comme agent de médiation redox pour l’imagerie de l’acide désoxyribonucléique (ADN) immobilisé en surface à l’aide de la microscopie électrochimique à balayage (SECM).

Solubilité
Soluble dans les solvants organiques. Légèrement soluble dans les solutions aqueuses acides. Insoluble dans les solutions neutres ou alcalines.
