Benzyl carbazate is used as a reagent for preparation of benzyloxycarbonyl (Z, Cbz) hydrazides of carboxylic acids, particularly N-protected amino acids. Subsequent hydrogenolysis gives the hydrazide which can be converted to the azide for coupling with a further amino acid residue by the azide method. It is also used in the preparation of simple acyl or sulfonyl hydrazides avoiding diacylation.

Applications
Le carbazate de benzyle est utilisé comme réactif pour la préparation d’hydrazures de benzyloxycarbonyle (Z, Cbz) d’acides carboxyliques, en particulier d’acides aminés protégés par des N. L’hydrogénolyse subséquente donne l’hydrazide qui peut être transformé en azide pour le couplage avec un autre résidu d’acides aminés par la méthode azoture. Il est également utilisé dans la préparation d’hydrazides acyle ou sulfonyle simple évitant la diacylation.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’eau (légèrement), le méthanol et le DMSO.

Remarques
Stockez-le dans un endroit frais. Garder le récipient bien fermé dans un endroit sec et bien ventilé. Manipuler sous gaz inerte. Protéger de l’humidité. Incompatible avec les agents oxydants forts.
