Description

Brochothrix thermosphacta ATCC™ from Oxoid is a gram positive rod.

  • Gram-positive rod
  • Constitutes significant proportion of spoilage flora of meat and meat products
  • Not considered to be pathogenic, it is economically important meat-spoilage organism
    • Grows in wide variety of meats and meat products
    • Produces malodorous metabolic end products, make affected meat unpalatable
  • STAA medium made selective by inclusion of streptomycin sulphate, thallous acetate and actidione (cycloheximide)
  • Medium modified from original formulation by removal of toxic selective agent cycloheximide as recommended by NMKL
  • According to this method this medium is applicable for meat, meat products and some fish products
