Ethyl 1,3-dithiane-2-carboxylate is used in syn-selective aldol reactions. It undergoes asymmetric oxidation to give trans bis-sulfoxide. It is used to generate carbanon, which finds application in the preparation of alfa- keto esters.

Applications
Lʼéthyle 1,3-dithiane-2-carboxylate est utilisé dans les réactions aldoliques syn-sélectives. Il subit une oxydation asymétrique pour donner du bis-sulfoxyde trans. Il est utilisé pour générer du carbanon, qui trouve son application dans la préparation des esters dʼalpha céto.
