Ethyl acetoacetate is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and as a co-promoter for unsaturated polyester resins. It is widely used in the production of dyes, inks, perfumes, plastics and flavoring agents. It is an important starting material for the syntheses of alpha-substituted acetoacetic esters and cyclic compounds like pyrazole, pyrimidine and coumarin derivatives. It acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of vitamins and pharmaceuticals. It finds application as a formaldehyde scavenger.

Applications
L’acétoacétate d’éthyle est utilisé comme intermédiaire dans la synthèse organique et comme co-promoteur pour les résines de polyester insaturé. Il est largement utilisé dans la production de colorants, d’encres, de parfums, de plastiques et d’agents aromatisants. C’est un produit de départ important pour la synthèse d’esters acétoacétiques alpha-substitués et de composés cycliques comme le pyrazole, la pyrimidine et les dérivés de la coumarine. Il sert d’intermédiaire dans la synthèse des vitamines et des produits pharmaceutiques. Il est utilisé comme un piège à formaldéhyde.
