Isatin is an endogenous monoamine oxidize (MAO) inhibitor involved in stress and anxiety. Additionally, isatin inhibits alkaline phosphatase (ALP), nitric oxide (NO)-stimulated soluble guanylate cyclase, and other enzymes. Isatins undergo a one-pot Wolff-Kishner like reduction with hydrazine hydrate, under surprisingly mild conditions, to give the corresponding oxindoles. It is used as chromatographic spray reagent for amino acid detection.

Applications
L’isatine est un inhibiteur endogène de la monoamine oxydase (MAO) à l’origine du stress et de l’anxiété. En outre, l’isatine inhibe la phosphatase alcaline (ALP), la guanylate cyclase soluble stimulée par l’oxyde nitrique (NO) et d’autres enzymes. Les isatines subissent une réduction de Wolff-Kishner monotope avec de l’hydrate d’hydrazine, dans des conditions étonnamment douces, pour donner les oxindoles correspondants. Il est utilisé comme réactif de pulvérisation chromatographique pour la détection des acides aminés.
