Description
Metronidazole is a limited spectrum antibiotic that actively deters the growth of protozoa, anaerobic gram-positive, and anaerobic gram-negative bacteria. The first use of this antibiotic was to suppress protozoans such as Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia and Trichomonas vaginalis. It has been used to repress the growth of gram-negative anaerobes belonging to the Bacteroides and Fusobacterium, and gram-positive anaerobes such aspeptostreptococcus and Clostridia. The advantages of this antibiotic is that it affects a high percentage of gram-negative bacteria and has greater tissue penetration.

Le métronidazole est un antibiotique à spectre limité qui empêche activement la croissance des protozoaires, des bactéries anaérobies Gram-positives et des bactéries anaérobies Gram-négatives. Cet antibiotique a tout d’abord été utilisé pour supprimer les protozoaires tels que l’Entamoeba histolytica, la Giardia lamblia et les vaginalis de Trichomonas. Il a été utilisé pour réprimer la croissance d’anaérobies Gram-négatif appartenant aux Bacteroides et Fusobacterium, et d’anaérobies Gram-positif comme le aseptostreptococcus et Clostridia. Cet antibiotique présente l’avantage de toucher un pourcentage élevé de bactéries Gram-négatives et d’avoir une plus grande pénétration tissulaire.
Solubilité
Soluble dans l’eau (10 mg/ml à 20°C), l’éthanol, le méthanol, le chloroforme et le diméthylsulfoxyde.
