It is an antioxidant, dietary supplement and protects liver. Further, it forms complexes with palladium, thereby it dissolves in water and remove palladium from drugs. Further, it is used in the treatment of paracetamol overdose. In addition to this, it is involved in the treatment of autism, Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and specific drug addictions like cocaine and cannabis.
