N,N-Dimethylformamide dineopentyl acetal helps in the lactonization of ω-hydroxyacids, giving lactones of up to 16-membered rings. It can be used to convert primary alcohols to alkylating agents for use in the alkylation of thiols. It is used in the esterification of Nα-9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonylamino acids. It was used in the synthesis of 1,3-dialkyl, benzyl and cyclohexyl barbiturate derivatives. It was used as reagent during the synthesis of L-serine and L-cystine stereospecifically labeled with deuterium at the β-position.

Applications
Le N,N-Diméthylformamide dinéopenthylacétal aide à la lactonisation de ω-hydroxyacides, ce qui donne des lactones contenant jusqu’à 16 cycles à chaîner. Il peut être utilisé pour convertir les alcools primaires en agents alkylants pour l’alkylation des thiols. Il est utilisé dans l’estérification des acides Nα-9-fluorénylméthyloxycarbonylamino. Il a été utilisé dans la synthèse de dérivés de barbituriques 1,3-dialkyle, benzyle et cyclohexyle. Il a été utilisé comme réactif lors de la synthèse de la L-sérine et de la L-cystine marquées stéréospécifiques avec le deutérium en β-position.
