N-phenylthiourea is used in paternity testing prior to the advent of DNA testing. It inhibits melanogenesis and is used to grow transparent fish. It is also used as a repellent for rat, rabbits, weasels and also in medical genetics.

Applications
La N-phénylthiourée est utilisée dans les tests de paternité avant l’arrivée des tests d’ADN. Elle inhibe la mélanogenèse et est utilisée pour cultiver des poissons transparents. Elle est également utilisée comme répulsif pour le rat, le lapin, les belettes et aussi en génétique médicale.
