Phenyl salicylate is used in the production of polymers, lacquers, adhesives, waxes and polishes. It acts as an antiseptic and mild analgesic. It is also used in the prevention of sunburn. It reacts with o-toluidine in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene to give the corresponding amide o-Salicylotoluide. Further, it is involved in the study to check the effect on crystal size with cooling rate in the laboratory. In addition to this, it is used in veterinary medicine and also employed for coating pills, in which the medicine is intended for enteric release salol.

Applications
Le salicylate de phényle est utilisé dans la production de polymères, de laques, d’adhésifs, de cires et de vernis. Il agit comme un analgésique antiseptique et léger. Il est également utilisé dans la prévention des coups de soleil. Il réagit avec l’o-toluidine dans le 1,2,4-trichlorobenzène pour donner l’amide o-salicylotoluide correspondant. De plus, il participe à l’étude pour vérifier l’effet sur la taille des cristaux avec un taux de refroidissement en laboratoire. En outre, il est utilisé en médecine vétérinaire et également pour le revêtement de pilules, dans lesquelles le médicament est destiné au salol à libération entérique.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’alcool, l’éther, le chloroforme, la térébenthine, l’acétone et le benzène. Peu soluble dans le chloroforme-benzène. Insoluble dans l’eau.

Remarques
Sensible à la lumière. Incompatible avec les oxydants forts, les acides forts et les bases fortes. Stocker dans un endroit frais.
