Sulfur trioxide-pyridine complex is used for sulfations of alcohols, sulfonations, deoxygenations and other reductions, oxidations with dimethyl sulfoxide. It is also used as a source of sulfur trioxide especially in the preparation of sulfate esters. Further, it is used as an activating electrophile in a Parikh-Doering oxidation. In addition to this, it is also used in the preparation and anticoagulation test of sulfated silk fibroin.

Applications
Le complexe trioxyde de soufre-pyridine est utilisé pour les sulfatations dʼalcools, de sulfonations, de désoxygénations et dʼautres réductions, les oxydations avec le diméthylsulfoxyde. Il est également utilisé comme source de trioxyde de soufre, en particulier dans la préparation des esters de sulfate. De plus, il est utilisé comme électrophile dʼactivation dans une oxydation Parikh-Doering. En outre, il est également utilisé dans le test de préparation et dʼanticoagulation de fibroïne en soie sulfatée.

Solubilité
Soluble dans les solvants organiques polaires.
