Tetraethyl methylidenediphosphonate is used in the synthesis of tetrazoloquinoline-based mono- and bisphosphonate esters. It acts as an intermediate for the synthesis of bisphosphonate and bisphosphonic acid derivatives with anticancer and antischistosomal activity. It is also used as a reactant for synthesis of dual substrate-site inhibitors of 3-deoxy-D-arabino-heputosonate 7-phosphate synthase and alpha-amino acid derivatives containing gem-biophosphonates, Lycopene through Wittig-Horner reaction. It is also used as a precursor for the preparation of dendritic polyglycerol anions.

Applications
Le méthyllidènediphosphonate de tétraéthyle est utilisé dans la synthèse d’esters mono- et bisphosphonates à base de tétrazoloquinoline. Il agit comme intermédiaire pour la synthèse de dérivés du bisphosphonate et de l’acide bisphosphonique avec une activité anticancéreuse et antischistosomique. Il est également utilisé comme réactif pour la synthèse d’inhibiteurs de sites de substrats doubles de dérivés 3-désoxy-D-arabino-heputosonate 7-phosphate synthase et alpha-amino-acides contenant des biophosphonates de gemme, Lycopène par la réaction de Wittig-Horner. Il est également utilisé comme précurseur pour la préparation d’anions de polyglycérol dendritiques.
