Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide reacts with sodium hydride to prepare dimethyloxosulfonium methylide, which is used as a methylene-transfer reagent in synthetic chemistry. It is used to prepare ylide, which reacts with carbonyl compounds to get epoxides. Further, it reacts with alfa,beta-unsaturated esters to get cyclopropyl esters.

Applications
L’iodure de triméthylsulfoxonium réagit avec l’hydrure de sodium pour préparer le méthylide de diméthyloxosulfonium, qui est utilisé comme réactif de transfert de méthylène en chimie synthétique. Il est utilisé pour préparer l’ylure, qui réagit avec les composés carbonylés pour obtenir des époxydes. De plus, il réagit avec les esters alpha et bêta non saturés pour obtenir des esters cyclopropyliques.
