Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane is used as buffers in biochemistry and molecular biology laboratories. It is used as a primary standard to standardize acid solutions for chemical analysis. It finds application in cell membranes to increase its permeability. As an alternative to sodium bicarbonate, it used in the treatment of metabolic acidosis.

Applications
Le tris(hydroxyméthyl)aminométhane est utilisé comme tampon dans les laboratoires de biochimie et de biologie moléculaire. En analyse chimique, il est utilisé comme étalon primaire pour normaliser les solutions acides. Il agit sur les membranes cellulaires pour augmenter leur perméabilité. Comme alternative au bicarbonate de sodium, il est utilisé dans le traitement de l’acidose métabolique.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’eau, l’éthylène glycol, le méthanol, l’éthanol, le diméthylformamide, l’acétone, l’acétate d’éthyle, l’huile d’olive, le chloroforme et dans solution alcaline.

Remarques
Hygroscopique. Incompatible avec les bases et les agents oxydants forts.
