It is an ingredient in sunscreen, and sometimes present in cosmetics such as blush, lipstick, and nail polish. Aluminum oxide is a catalyst in the claus process in hydro desulfurization and some Ziegler-Natta polymerizations. It is widely used as an abrasive, in the automotive industries, cosmetic industries and fiber materials. It is a medium for chromatography in some sodium vapor lamps. It is used in ultrafine acid side polishing slurries.
