Phosphonoacetic acid inhibits deoxyribo nucleic acid polymerase, especially in viruses. It is used as an antiviral agent. Further, it is used in the preparation of 1-(dimethylamino)-2,2-bis[(dimethylimmonio)-methyl]ethene diperchlorate by reacting with phosphorus oxychloride.

Applications
L’acide phosphonoacétique inhibe la polymérase de l’acide désoxyribonucléique, en particulier dans les virus. Il est utilisé comme agent antiviral. De plus, il est utilisé dans la préparation du diperchlorate de 1-(diméthylamino)-2,2-bis[(diméthylimmonio)-méthyl]éthène en réagissant avec l’oxychlorure de phosphore.
