Interleukin 6 (IL-6) recombinant human protein is supplied as a lyophilized powder. This protein is suitable for use in analysis of protein structure and performing cell based assays. It can also be used as an immunogen, as a protein standard, or in other research applications.&line-break;Background: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional α-helical cytokine that regulates cell growth and differentiation of various tissues, and is known particularly for its role in the immune response and acute phase reactions. IL-6 is also involved in hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, and cancer progression, and has been defined an essential role in directing transition from innate to acquired immunity. IL-6 is secreted by a variety of cell types including T cells and macrophages as phosphorylated and variably glycosylated molecule with the molecular mass of 22-28kDa. Three IL-6 signaling pathways (STAT1, STAT3, and Ras-dependent MAPK cascade) have been reported. Dysregulated production of IL-6 and IL6R are implicated in the pathogenesis of several inflammatory diseases and malignancies such as multiple myeloma, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoporosis.

• Activity: 1. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA; immobilized recombinant human IL6 (100μL/well of a 8μg/mL solution) has been shown to bind recombinant human IL6R with a linear range of 1.25-20.0ng/mL; 2. Measured in a cell proliferation assay using TF1 human erythroleukemic cells, the EC₅₀ for this effect is typically 0.2-0.8ng/mL
• Formulation: lyophilized in 140mM NaCl, 2.7mM KCl, 10mM Na₂HPO₄, 1.8mM KH₂PO₄, pH 7.4, 5% mannitol, 5% trehalose, 0.02% Tween™-80
• Reconstitution: Dissolve the protein in sterile double-distilled water to a concentration of 0.2mg/mL or lower; aliquot and use as soon as possible
